It seems that Xbox Live account-hacking is continuing to be an issue months after a previous report circulated around the internet back in October 2011. Over the Christmas holiday yours truly lost access to his Xbox Live account (on Christmas Eve…is nothing sacred?) to hackers who are taking over accounts, stripping points, and buying copies of FIFA 11 and FIFA 12 as well as DLC from both titles (no offense against FIFA, but really?!? FIFA DLC?). As a public service we’d like to remind Xbox Live users of a few helpful ways you can help safeguard your XBL Account:
1. Set up a Xbox Live Passcode: Kind of like adding a PIN number to your XBL account. This will make sure anytime you login to XBL that only you know the specific code to get onto Xbox Live.
2. Set your profile access to ask for a Password each time you login from a different console other than your own. This will ensure when someone tries to access your account from a console other than yours they will have to enter that password before the account is moved to another console.
The full steps to completing these two tasks as well as a full security checklist can be found here. Hopefully this will help other gamers from having to suffer 16-24 days of being locked out from their Xbox Account.
